The Story of Splintered Sauce: Rhythmic Flavor. Distorted Heat.

Splintered Sauce was born in 2020, one of countless side hustles that took shape during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

But our roots in heat and flavor started long before that. Originally from upstate New York, we grew up just a few hours from the epicenter of chicken wings—where hot sauce wasn’t just a condiment, it was a way of life.

 

Back then, it was all about Frank’s and Tabasco. But over time, we discovered a wider world of peppers and flavors—and living in Fort Mill, SC, put us just a few miles away from the creator of the Carolina Reaper. That’s where we picked up our first Reaper plant—without knowing it would become the catalyst for something bigger.

Where We Are Now

Since launching, our sauces have earned four awards, including a first-place finish at the 2025 Scovie Awards.

Looking ahead, we’re working on new sauces and possibly even something spicy beyond hot sauce. Whatever comes next, one thing is certain—we’ll keep cranking up the volume, blending bold flavors with heat, and paying tribute to the music that inspires us.

A Tip of the Hat to the Music Scene

The names of our sauces aren’t random. They’re our way of saluting performing musicians.

During the pandemic, concerts went silent. As frequent concertgoers, we felt that loss deeply.

 

(With the exception of Josh Daniel’s daily live-streamed front porch performances in Charlotte, which kept us going!) Splintered Sauce became our way of keeping the energy alive, channeling that passion into something flavorful, creative, and bold.

From Backyard Peppers to Award-Winning Sauces

The Carolina Reaper plant that started it all barely produced in its first year. By year two, it looked like a lit-up Christmas tree—and we had more of the world’s hottest peppers than we knew what to do with. So, we did what came naturally: we made sauce.

The genesis of our first sauce, "Hummin’ & Strummin’", started as a friend’s recipe. With a few tweaks, we began handing out bottles to friends and family—and despite some skepticism about a strawberry-based hot sauce, the reaction was undeniable: we had something special.

Next came "Dirty Blues", and with it, our vision for Splintered Sauce took shape.

 

We weren’t chasing heat for heat’s sake—we wanted to create sauces that balanced bold, dynamic flavors with just the right level of fire. Our sauces weren’t just about burn; they were about harmony.
